Police arrest a suspect after discovering drugs hidden in “Cremora boxes.”
According to Times Live, an alleged drug den that was operating out of a supermarket in Standerton has come under heavy police scrutiny in Mpumalanga.
The drugs were found on Wednesday as a result of a coordinated crime intelligence-driven operation carried out by the Standerton K9 and Secunda K9 units, according to Brig Selvy Mohlala, a spokesperson for the Mpumalanga police.
“Suspects were found using what was portrayed as a supermarket in Standerton’s Ext 6 as a drug hub,” the statement reads.
After allegedly being discovered in possession of about 820 suspected Mandrax tablets weighing about 1,164g, an 18-year-old Ethiopian national was detained.
According to Mohlala, the street value of the drugs is thought to be around R125,000.
Inside a box of Cremora powdered milk were the tablets.
The suspect is being held while a request for bail is processed on October 18.
According to Mohala, the investigation is also determining his residency status in South Africa, and the police are collaborating with the department of home affairs.
