Col. Priscilla Naidu, a spokesperson for the police department, stated that an inquest docket has been established for the investigation, TimesLive reports.
According to Naidu, the alleged assault took place around 7:45 in the morning in Port Alfred while the victim was out walking.
“Two male witnesses ran to a nearby security official and reported the incident,” she said. “The incident was reported by the witnesses.” After that, the official from security contacted the authorities.
The severely injured woman was found lying on the side of the road when the police arrived to assist her.
“The woman suffered life-threatening injuries to her face and upper body,” the doctor said. There was absolutely no sign of the dogs anywhere. “She did not receive any medical attention before she passed away,” Naidu said.
Detectives from Port Alfred are currently looking for the person who owns the dogs.
“At this stage, the number of dogs involved, and their breed are unknown, and the police believe that two male witnesses who were present during the incident may be able to provide information that is crucial to the investigation”.
