FIFA ranking: 26

They finished in second-place finish in Group I of European qualifying.

Who is their coach?

52-year-old Czeslaw Michniewicz was hired in January to replace Paulo Sousa, who left to become the head coach of Flamengo. Michniewicz, who was born in what is now Belarus, coached nine Polish clubs until being named the Under-21 team’s coach in 2017.

In 2019, he led them to the finals of the Euro Under-21. Michniewicz returned to club service with Legia Warsaw the following year and led them to a record-setting 15th Polish league championship. After a dismal start to the season, he was fired last October.

Key personnel

Robert Lewandowski is one of Polish football’s all-time greats. Lewandowski, the country’s all-time leader in appearances and goals, hopes to perform far better than he did in Russia four years ago, when he failed to score in the group stage and Poland was eliminated early.

After eight spectacular, record-setting seasons with the German giants, the 34-year-old has resumed up where he left off at Bayern Munich with Barcelona. The reigning two-time winner of the European Golden Shoe has also been named the Best Men’s FIFA Player for the past two years.
