Julius Malema says the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) would defend the DA in Joburg until the ANC delivers Ekurhuleni to the EFF.
Thursday afternoon, Malema spoke with Newzroom Afrika’s Xoli Mngambi, according to News24.
After Tania Campbell was ousted in a no-confidence vote last month, the ANC and EFF clashed over who would run Ekurhuleni.
The EFF wanted Nkululeko Dunga to be mayor, while the ANC wanted one of their own.
Communication breakdown led to Campbell’s return as mayor.
Malema said the EFF is “ready to negotiate” with the ANC.
“We won’t support their no-confidence move. We were meant to attend [a Ekurhuleni council committee] on Thursday, but we withdrew because of the ANC.

“If the ANC intends to return to the EFF, then it must put the EFF in charge of Ekurhuleni… then we can discuss.”
Monday, opposing minority parties in Joburg stated they would submit a no-confidence motion against Executive Mayor Mpho Phalatse.
Mngambi questioned Malema what a no-confidence vote in Phalatse meant.
“We’ll vote for the DA till the ANC fulfills its Ekurhuleni promises.
“EFF in Joburg won’t back a no-confidence move.
“He’ll blame his party. He’ll blame Mzwandile Masina, not us.
We were prepared to deliver him, but his deceitful comrades thought we couldn’t lead.
