Teffo’s assault, fraud case delayed until November

Former Advocate, Malesela Teffo’s case has been postponed until 3 November.

According to The Citizen, Teffo, who’s out on bail, briefly appeared in court.

Charges include assault, fraud, corruption, and trespassing.

The case was postponed so Teffo could make his case since he doesn’t know the charges against him.

Teffo was arrested on April 28 during the murder trial of Senzo Meyiwa.

Police said Teffo had been detained since he missed court appearances.

He was arrested for common assault and trespassing after allegedly assaulting a female officer and entering the South African Police Service (Saps) Gauteng provincial building against a high court interdict.

Teffo dropped four 2014 Meyiwa murder suspects in July.

Disbarment
The Legal Practice Council barred Teffo from practicing law earlier this month (LPC).

Teffo accepted client money without a lawyer’s brief, which is illegal.

Additionally, the court determined that he had misled it in other cases in which he served as counsel.

Teffo has now filed to overturn the court’s judgment.

Teffo must demonstrate the judgment was wrongly allowed in his absence and there was a patent mistake.

The LPC submitted a motion last year following receiving 20 complaints against Teffo, a 2009 advocate.
