For repeatedly sexually abusing (rape) his 11-year-old daughter, a 37-year-old “demon-possessed” father received 24 years in prison.
According to News24, the man was sentenced in Sasolburg, Free State.
The court heard how the man repeatedly raped his daughter at home between August 2020 and November 2021 while her mother was away, according to Phaladi Shuping, the NPA’s regional spokesperson.
The mother noticed her daughter’s unusual behavior, which had impacted her academic performance.

The man admitted guilt but blamed “demons” for the abuse, according to Shuping.
“The father acknowledged that he raped his daughter, but he faulted evil spirits and told the court he was possessed. The daughter’s medical exam showed she was violated”. Shuping said.
According to the prosecutor’s victim impact statement, the girl blamed herself for her academic struggles.
The prosecutor wanted life in prison, but the defense lawyer argued for a reduced sentence since the man had confessed.
“The accused was sentenced to 24 years by Magistrate Phumzile Ngewu. She also ordered the accused’s name to be added to the National Register for Sex Offenders and declared him unfit to own a gun”.
